The Niagara Daredevil Waterpark was awarded a $1 million grant from the newly created Tourism Target Zone Fund, an agency overseen by the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency. The DiCienzo family, the owners of the Sheraton at the Falls Hotel in Niagara Falls and the developers of the waterpark, have been declined any state incentives for the $20 million project which is expected to create 25-35 full and part-time jobs. Anchor Bar will open its 11th area location in Niagara Falls (Niagara county) inside the Holiday Inn on Buffalo Avenue. The new location will open on November 16th and will be the chains first location in Niagara county. (October 26, 2017-WIVB.com)

General Motors announced it will invest $3.5 million in its Lockport plant to support future production of thermal products. The plant makes heating, ventilation and air conditioning products and powertrain thermal components for GM cars and trucks. The new investment will not create any new jobs but will help retain the 1,400 jobs at the plant. (October 31, 2017-The buffalo News)

The Hyatt Place hotel in downtown Niagara Falls is on target to open in early 2018 according to the hotels developer the Hamister Group. The $35 million project broke ground in July 2016 after years of delays. The hotel is expected to create the equivalent of approximately 35 full-time jobs. (October 31, 2017-The Buffalo News)


LAYOFFS AND CLOSINGS

New this month

Physician recruitment problems are cited for the reason as to why three Lifetime health Medical Group locations will close in Western New York at the end of this year. The health centers, located in Buffalo, Amherst and Hamburg that offer primary care, will eliminate 202 staff positions. (October 4-the buffalo News)
