New this month

John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital will open this week on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus after years of planning to replace the current Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. The $270 million facility

IBM will add 20 new jobs at its Buffalo Innovation Center at the hub in Key Center in downtown Buffalo. The jobs will raise the number of people employed at the center to 185. IBM has pledged to bring 500 jobs to the hub by 2021, either through IBM itself or its clients and partners. The hub, which opened in 2015, is owned by the state as part of the Buffalo Billion economic-development. (November 9, 2017-the buffalo news)

Actor and director Jon Abrahams has returned to Buffalo to film another movie. Film crews will be in the area until the end of the year to film the new movie “Clover”, a film that revolves around two brothers who go on the run to protect a teenage girl after she witnessed a murder. This is the second film the actor and director has filmed here in the past two years. (November 16, 2017-WIVB.com)

Several projects are underway in downtown Buffalo at Canalside. The Explore & More Children’s Museum is currently under construction. The four-story $29 million project is expected to be finished by late next year. A vintage carousel is currently being restored and scheduled to debut in the summer of 2019. As the museum takes shape, other projects, now in the planning and design stages, including restaurants, in historically themed buildings, could potentially open in 2019 and 2020.
