The unemployment rate in the Utica-Rome MSA increased from 3.9 percent in September 2019 to 5.7 percent in September 2020.  The unemployment rate fell from 9.2 percent in August. 

Change in Nonfarm Jobs since September 2019

For the 12-month period ending September 2020, the nonfarm job count in the Utica-Rome MSA decreased 9,800, or 7.7 percent, to 117,400.  Private sector employment fell 8,000, or 8.3 percent, to 88,600.

Financial activities (+100) was the only sector with growth over-the-year.
Job losses were posted in: education and health services (-3,300), government (-1,800), leisure and hospitality (-1,600), professional and business services (-800), manufacturing (-700), natural resources, mining, and construction (-700), trade, transportation, and utilities (-500), other services (-400), and information (-100).
