BUSINESS EXPANSIONS FOR THE HUDSON VALLEY REGION

Dutchess County
Arnoff Moving & Storage
is planning an additional expansion to meet the growing demand for its services. The company offers services in moving and storage, packing and shipping, antique furniture restoration, art storage, rigging and records management. It has immediate needs for at least 10 drivers for its Dutchess County location. For every new driver employed, it creates a need for two additional helpers. The pay for the drivers begins at $15 to $22 per hour and helpers start at $10 to $14 per hour.

Hudson Heritage, a $200 million project that would transform the 156-acre Hudson River Psychiatric Center property into a hub of commercial and residential facilities, is one step closer to reality. The developers and town officials have signed an agreement that lays out a broad plan beginning with the demolition of nearly every building, in addition to extensive environment clean-up work. EFG/DRA, the developers behind the project, will need regulatory approvals. It is estimated that the project would create about 450 temporary construction jobs and a large number of retail/service jobs at the various businesses that would be attracted to the facility.

Hopewell Sportsdome Ventures L.L.C. recently purchased a 33-acre parcel on which it plans to build an air-supported dome called “Sports Kingdome” in the Town of East Fishkill. The facility will be used by athletic organizations that want all-weather, year-round space for games, practice or tournaments. Special non-sporting events may also be held occasionally. Construction is scheduled to begin within a month, with an opening slated for late 2016 or early 2017. When open, the complex will employ between 75 to 100 people.

The Landing of Poughkeepsie, an assisted-living facility with openings for independent living and for residents needing memory care, recently opened for business in the Town of Poughkeepsie, creating about 100 jobs with job titles including license practical nurses, cooks, waitstaff and servers, dishwashers, sales assistants, maintenance technicians, housekeepers, receptionists, drivers, and activity directors, as well as memory care and dementia program specialists.

True North Hotel Group, a hotel development firm, has begun construction on a dual Marriott hotel project with a $28 million investment. One is a 91-room Residence Inn and the other is a 75-room SpringHill Suites. Both properties are scheduled to open in the summer of 2016. No job numbers were announced.

Orange County
Carib-South Airways,
a new cargo airline has set up shop at Stewart International Airport. The company recently announced its presence as a cargo-only service provider, specializing in trades between New York and Caribbean nations. Carib-South Airways will fly fresh fruits and vegetables to Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Puerto Rico and return from the islands with fresh fish which is in demand here. The airliner is scheduled to begin flights in late July or early August and will employ about 12 people.

Isomedix, a company that sterilizes medical supplies, was recently approved by the Orange County Industrial Development Agency for financial incentives to construct a second facility in Chester. Isomedix employs about 110 employees and plans to add 25 new jobs to its existing workforce at the new 61,000 square-foot facility.

Ulster County
Usheco, Inc.
a manufacturer of custom molded plastic parts is launching a new product this fall and, as a result, the company has job openings for CNC operators. Usheco anticipates the need to hire at least 5 machine operators, along with assembly and shipping staff after the launch of the Plant Air Purifier.

Plans for a 101-room Holiday Inn Express, is in the works for Lake Katrine. The project will receive tax breaks from the Ulster County Industrial Development Agency. No job numbers were announced.

Construction has begun on a Residence Inn by Marriott in the Town of Ulster. The four-story extended stay hotel will rise 92 feet and have 92 rooms. The project was approved last year by the town Planning Board and will receive tax breaks from the Ulster County Industrial Development Agency. No job numbers were announced.

BUSINESS CONTRACTIONS FOR THE HUDSON VALLEY REGION

Dutchess County
Durham School Services
filed a WARN notice with NYS Department of Labor in anticipation of a mass layoff. The company lost the contract with the Spackenkill United Free School District, Dutchess County BOCES and Rhinebeck School District. Durham School Services will lay off 76 employees at its Poughkeepsie facility, beginning October 15, 2015.
