Safety Inspections of Amusement Rides

The NYS Department of Labor (DOL) inspects rides at every amusement park and traveling show located outside of New York City. If an event does not appear on the DOL list, please report it immediately here or by using the link that appears at the end of every local listing of events.

The New York State Department of Labor inspects all amusement devices on or before the scheduled start date of an event. Only those devices deemed safe are allowed to operate. Detailed inspection results for each individual device will be posted within two weeks of the event start date.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where can I read more about safety tips for amusement parks?
A: Visit to review the safety tips for parents and children.

Q: What about New York City?
A: Events in the five counties of New York City – Bronx, Kings, New York, Queens, and Richmond – are inspected by the New York City Department of Buildings. The New York City Department of Consumer Affairs also has an Instant License Check database.

Q: What else can I learn about each event that is listed?
A: This site provides more details about each event, including:

  • Companies that operate rides at each event
  • Rides that each of those companies own
  • Violations that DOL has issued to each company so far this year
  • Violations that DOL has issued to each ride this year

Q: What do these violations mean?
A: The violations identify issues that DOL inspectors found and ordered to be fixed. The fact that a ride has been cited for a violation does not mean that it is unsafe. The DOL takes unsafe rides out of service. Violations are issued during the course of DOL inspections and operators often correct violations before DOL inspectors leave the site. Violations remain listed in the database even after the owner corrects them.

Q: Where can I find past years' data?
A: Request past years' data
