Since October 2008, the number of nonfarm jobs (private plus public sectors) in New York State decreased by 241,900, or 2.7 percent, and the number of private sector jobs decreased by 222,500 or 3.0 percent. Additional industry detail is presented in the table below.
New York State's unemployment rate (not seasonally adjusted) was 8.7 percent in October 2009, down from 8.8 percent in September 2009. In October 2008, the rate was 5.7 percent.
