Blasters Board of Examiners

• Responsibilities
  
  • Make recommendations to the Commisioner of Labor with respect to examinations, experience, and competence of such applicants.
  • Holds hearings prior to Commissioner's determination to suspend or revoke certificates, or to refuse renewal of certificates.
  • Reports findings and recommendations to the Commissioner with respect to such hearings.

  Three members appointed by the Commissioner of Labor. At least one shall be a blaster who holds a valid certificate of competence and at least one other member shall be a representative of explosives manufacturers.

Boiler Board of Examiners

• Responsibilities
  Conducts examinations of those persons who inspect boilers as employees of insurance companies licensed to write boiler insurance in New York State.

  Three members, in addition to the department's chief boiler inspector, one representative of a boiler manufacturer, one representative of an insurance company, and one representative of boiler operators. The members are appointed by the Commissioner of Labor and are as follows:

  Advises the Commissioner of Labor about rules and regulations that prevent personal injuries in the use of amusement devices at carnivals, fairs, and amusement parks.

• Responsibilities
  
  • Receives, reviews, and acts upon applications for funding of capital projects designed to abate occupational safety and health hazards which have been found by the Commissioner of Labor to violate Section 27-a of the Labor Law.
  • Receives, reviews, and acts upon applications for occupational safety and health training and education grants pursuant to Article 29 of the Labor Law.
  • Recommends occupational safety and health standards to the Commissioner of Labor for adoption that protect public sector employees.

  Five members appointed by the Governor: one shall be recommended by the Temporary President of the Senate, one recommended by the Speaker of the Assembly and one recommended by the State Comptroller.
