Unemployment Insurance Hearings and Appeals

You may request a hearing on any determination that you don't agree with.

As an employer, you have the right to request a hearing whenever you disagree with a determination about a claim for benefits by one of your former employees or your liability under the Unemployment Insurance Law.

Whenever your request for a hearing involves an amount due as a result of an examination of your records, the Department will first schedule a conference in the U.I. Tax Services District Office nearest your business to attempt to resolve the issue.

As a claimant you may request a hearing on any determination affecting your rights to benefits.

A hearing is an informal trial held before an administrative law judge in a hearing room. Based on the evidence presented at the hearing the judge will decide whether you are entitled to unemployment insurance benefits. At the hearing, you, your employer and any witnesses for either side may testify. The testimony will be recorded. Either side can also present papers or other physical evidence.
