    Statewide Labor Market Overview

    Since March 2011, the number of nonfarm jobs (private plus public sectors) in New York State increased by 148,100, or 1.7 percent, and the number of private sector jobs increased by 149,300 or 2.1 percent. Additional industry detail is presented in the table below.

    New York State's unemployment rate (not seasonally adjusted) was 8.7 percent in March 2012, up from 8.2 percent in March 2011.
