Laborers Recruit Apprentices

Poughkeepsie, NY (June 21, 2012) -

The Laborers' International Union of North America, Local Union #1000, will conduct recruitment from July 2, 2012 through June 28, 2013 for three skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Local Union #1000, 510 Haight Avenue, Suite 101, Poughkeepsie, NY, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have at least a 12th grade education or have a general equivalency diploma (G.E.D).
  • Must be physically able to perform the work required, determined by a physical exam required by federal regulations for hazardous waste and asbestos removal.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work sites and related instruction classes.
  • Must pass a drug test upon offer of apprentice position.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
