Unemployment Insurance Division Unemployment Insurance is temporary income for eligible workers who lose their jobs through no fault of their own. We offer information for claimants to help in filing a claim, certifying for weekly benefits, and dealing with hearings and appeals. Information for employers includes registering, services we offer, covered employment and information on FUTA tax credit. We offer the Shared Work Program for businesses that want to keep their employees working at reduced hours rather than downsizing. We enforce Prevailing Wage rules, the UI Law and UI Regulations. Worker Protection Standards and Licensing We protect people in the workplace through asbestos programs; safety and health programs; code rules; and wage and hour laws. We oversee child performer rules and child labor, as well as farm labor. Our investigators on the Labor Standards Task Force monitor Registered Apparel Contractors and Manufacturers. Research and Statistics Division We are the primary source of labor market information in Veterans Services We offer priority services to veterans of military service through our Veterans’ Employment representatives, located in Workforce Development and Training We work with the public and private sector to offer testing and counseling services for adults, including Displaced Homemaker Centers and Disability Program Navigators. We administer programs under the Workforce Investment Act and support promising practices and technical advisories at One-Stop Locations around the state. Bureau of Immigrant Workers’ Rights The Bureau of Immigrant Workers’ Rights works to ensure that the Labor Department is accessible to immigrant workers and responsive to their needs. The Bureau conducts outreach to community groups, legislators, NGOS, and others in order to inform them of the services provided by the Labor Department, and the Bureau also conducts internal analysis of the policies, procedures, and written materials of the Department’s programs and divisions to ensure accessibility for immigrants. |
